The Inverell RSL SUB Branch Digger’s Cup presentation.
DIGGERS CUP AND BUSH BATTLERS CUP
Your committee couldn’t be happier with the November meeting as fine weather drew a great crowd to the track.
The disappointment of having the local races cancelled at the October meeting, although the Holy Trinity P & F still had their family day and Art Union draw, was quickly forgotten as the rain topped the racing surface off brilliantly, and curator Col was all smiles as the track was upgraded throughout the day.
There was good representation from the RSL sub-branch, and they watched on as winning trainer Wayne Brown (Everlasting Kiss) was presented with the Diggers Cup, and he thanked them and all veterans for their service.
The Don Bartlett Memorial Bush Battlers Cup was a boilover, with True Patriot grabbing Archer’s Reign on the line. Winning trainer Josh Oliver said it was his first runner at Inverell but he did ride here at the corresponding meeting seven years earlier.
We welcomed over 400 members of the Inverell Picnic Race Club, who enjoyed food and entertainment in their big marquee.
A small contingent from the Danthonia community also enjoyed their day with us. Inverell receives good publicity through the TAB and Sky Channel for this meeting and Brian Baldwin’s preview from the enclosure prior to each race is a real highlight.
The Women's Shed goes from strength to strength, serving up delicious treats.
BOXING DAY/NEW YEARS DAY
The Goodwood Cup is the feature race on Boxing Day, and we have secured DJ JORDE, supported by RJAY & ZENOAHA, for the Boxing Night entertainment.
DJ JORDE hails from the Netherlands, and we are assured his productions are “characterised by infectious rhythms and melodic hooks”.
Our Inverell Cup Calcutta will again be held at Sporties on New Year's Eve, and this has grown in popularity every year.
The Inverell Cup on New Year's Day will again be sponsored by the Tatts Hotel – the Cup is worth $45,000, and the Brian Baldwin Super Maiden is a $50,000 race.
I am pleased to say Miss Elly Croft will be back to sing the National Anthem prior to the Cup. Keep an eye on our social media for more details.
ON THE TRACK
It is good to see Jo Methven back training, with her first runner for 10 years going around at Moree on the 1st of November. Jo is taking things slowly but hopes to build a small team. We look forward to success for all our trainers over the Christmas - New Year period.
THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED
We pass on our condolences to the family of the late Mick Farrell of Warialda. Mick loved racing and pacing and was a member of our club.
A former trainer, Don Small, will be remembered as an astute trainer who could get his runners in top order for a big race. Don trained handy gallopers, including PARDONS PRIDE and MEMORY SHOES.
A race will be named in his memory on Boxing Day and his ashes will be buried at the course over the Christmas-New Year period.
